SIBU: A 27-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping a schoolgirl in a hotel in Kapit.
Kapit district police chief, deputy Supt Freddy Bian said the alleged offence took place for three days where the 17-year-old victim, was locked up by the suspect in the hotel room.
Freddy said that at about 2.30pm on March 31, the victim who is a student at a school in Song, met the suspect in Gelangang Kenyalang Kapit.
“The suspect had told the victim that he had come from Sibu to look for her girlfriend whom he knew,” he added.
He then brought her to a hotel room and left her there alone.
At 10pm that day, the suspect came to the room and raped her three times for three days.
“He had threatened the victim that he would kill her if she reported the matter to the police,” said Freddy.
However, at about 3am on April 2, while the suspect was sound asleep, the victim took the opportunity to escape.
She then lodged a report at the Kapit Police Station.
Freddy said when the suspect realised that the victim had fled, he took an express boat to Sibu.
He was, however, arrested by the police who were waiting for him at the express boat terminal.
The case is being investigated under Section 375 of the Penal Code for rape.
