MIRI: Police have detained a 28-year-old man for threatening to kill his mother using a Samurai sword on Saturday (May 29).

The arrest was made during an operations code-named Ops Gawai, following a report lodged by the suspect’s 52-year-old mother.

The suspect had reportedly threatened his mother inside a flat unit of Quadruplex in Lorong 8 Bandar Baru Permyjaya here.

Miri deputy police chief Supt Sabri Zainol said the suspect went into a rage after his mother refused his demand for cash.

A heated argument ensued between the suspect and his mother before he took a Samurai sword and threatened to kill his mother.

Fortunately, the woman managed to flee the house and went to a nearby police station to lodge a police report.

Following to the report lodged, a team of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) personnel went to the house around 8 pm to detain the suspect. However, he had acted aggressively towards the law enforcement officers.

He was eventually arrested after a scuffle with the police.
