SIBU: A 39-year-old local man may face the death penalty after he was allegedly found with various drugs worth more than RM73,000 here last Friday (May 5).
Sibu Police Chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili in a statement today said the suspect was arrested at Jalan Teo Loh here by police personnel from the Sarawak Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (CID) at around 6 pm.
“Upon inspection, police found 39 packets of ecstasy juice powder (1,374.7g) and 53 ecstasy tablets (29.40g).
“Also confiscated were 12 cigarettes suspected to contain a mixture of cannabis-type drugs (21.60g) and 12 packets containing crystallised substance suspected to be ketamine (16.70g),” he said.
Zulkipli noted that the estimated weight of the drugs was 1,442.4g and the total seizure value amounted to RM73,615.
“A urine test conducted on the suspect turned out negative,” he said.
The suspect is being remanded six days for investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries a death sentence upon conviction.
