SIBU: Police arrested a 26-year-old man for alleged assault at the Sibu Bus Terminal, Jalan Pahlawan recently.
Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the 24-year-old victim lodged a report at 10.29 pm on Sunday (Apr 14).
“The victim said that at around 5 pm on the day in question, he was attacked by three unidentified assailants while waiting for the bus.
“He also claimed he was forcibly transported by the perpetrators to a residence at Jalan Sentosa in a pick-up truck,” he said.
Acting on public tip-offs, the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) arrested one of the suspects, who is currently remanded until Apr 18 to facilitate investigations.
Preliminary investigations showed that the incident stemmed from the victim going out with the suspect’s wife.
“Fuelled by resentment, the suspect, accompanied by three accomplices who remain at large, allegedly assaulted the victim and threatened him not to disturb his wife,” he said.
Zulkipli said the case is being investigated under Section 506/323 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and voluntarily causing hurt.
He urged the public to refrain from speculation regarding the incident.
Earlier, a 1.15-minute video clip depicting the assault at the bus terminal went viral on Facebook.
Since its upload, the video has garnered over 110,000 views, 977 likes, 233 comments, and 552 shares.
