BINTULU: Narcotics police arrested a local man for alleged possession of dangerous drugs yesterday.

Bintulu OCPD Supt Batholomew Umpit said the 32-year-old suspect was detained around Jalan Abang Galau.

Following a body search, police seized a plastic packet and a straw tube containing drugs believed to be syabu from the suspect’s bag. The drugs weighed 5.3g.

The suspect was taken to the police station for further action. He will be investigated under Section 39A (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a jail term of up to five years and whipping of up to three lashes, upon conviction.

The police chief said he would also be investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act after he tested positive for drugs.

He appealed for information related to drug activities in the district to be channelled to the police at 086-318304.
