Man reported missing while collecting nipah leaves returns home safely

BELAGA: A septuagenarian who was reported missing while collecting nipah leaves near Rh Sekapan Piit here yesterday (July 18), has returned home safe and sound today.

The 73-year-old had gone across Sungai Menamang to collect nipah leaves around 7 am and failed to returned home.

His family organised a search party but failed to find him.

It prompted the man’s family to travel to Belaga police station to lodge a missing person’s report around 3.10 am this morning.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said they received a call from Belaga police around 7.30 am on the incident.

Firemen from Belaga station were promptly despatched to the scene. However on arrival, they were informed that the victim have returned home safely around 8 am.

The team performed a medical check-up on the victim before concluding the operation at 9.20 am.
