MIRI: A 44-year-old man ran amok and threatened his father at their home in RPR Batu 6, Jalan Pujut-Kuala Baram recently.
This was after his demand for cash amounting to RM300 was refused by the 71-year-old patriarch of the family.
In the incident, that occurred on December 6 and 8, the son had smashed glass windows, apart from threatening his father with a pair of scissors during their argument after the demand rejection by the older man.
The suspect allegedly needed the cash to pay for his utilities bills.
However, based on police preliminary investigation, about a week prior to the incident, the suspect has asked the same amount which the father had given to him. But on Dec 6 he came again and approached the father for another RM300.
Argument ensued between the two, when the complainant refused the suspect’s demand.
During the argument, the suspect had grabbed a pair of scissors, using it to threaten the old man.
A police report was later on lodged by the complainant who feared for his safety, because the son had continued to run amok inside the house ever since.
On December 10, at 4.40pm, a team of Miri police from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested the suspect.
The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, police also detained a teenage boy for threatening his sister. This happened after she told him to stop making loud noise inside her house in Lorong Usahawan 3, Jalan Miri Bypass on Thursday morning.
The sister told the boy to keep quiet because her one-month old infant was asleep in one of the rooms.
After being told so at around 7am, the 17-year-old suspect began to run amok by damaging a glass top make-up table.
He also allegedly threatened to harm his 26 year-old sister, just like what he did to the glass top make -up table.
Worried for her safety, the complaint lodged a police report.
Acting on the report lodged, police had detained the suspect at 1.20pm that same day (Thursday).
The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief.
Meanwhile, Miri deputy police chief Supt Mohd Sabri Zainol confirmed the two arrests made by the police.
