KOTA SAMARAHAN: A man suffered burns on his right foot in a minor fire at a convenience store in Kampung Empila, yesterday.
A spokesperson for the State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre said a report was received from the Malaysia Emergency Response Service (MERS 999) about a fire around 12.06pm.
Shortly, a team of firefighters from the Kota Samarahan Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched to the scene.
When the firefighters arrived the fire had already been put out by the villagers.
“The fire which affected the cushion and the wooden chair was extinguished with the help of nearby villagers before the arrival of our team.
“The man, who is believed to be the owner of the store, was pouring petrol into a bottle for sale,” the spokesperson said in a statement.
Emergency Services Assistance Unit (EMRS) members provided emergency assistance to the victim before sending him to the nearby Sarawak Heart Centre.
It is understood that the fire was caused by negligence and investigations are being carried out by a forensic team.
