KUCHING: A farmer considered himself lucky to be alive after he was attacked by a crocodile yesterday morning at 7am.

However, he lost his right index finger and part of his middle finger while fighting for his life.

The victim in his 50s said he was going crab catching with his relatives at Kampung Emplia, Samarahan and was in his sampan (boat) when a crocodile pounced on him and bit his right hand which was on the side of the sampan.

He said he did not know how he managed to fight off the crocodile and his relative — who was supposed to go with him — was at a distance away and came to his aid.

The victim was rushed to Sarawak General Hospital and underwent a minor surgery.
