Man sustains serious burns in house fire

KUCHING:  A man suffered serious burns to various parts of his body when his house at Rumah Pabri  in Jalan Beluru, Lapok in Baram district was destroyed in a fire early yesterday.

The incident occurred around 12.40am on Monday. His house was not far from SK Long Lapok.

Miri Fire and Rescue Department chief Law PohKiong said their operations room received a distress call about the incident at 12.45am.

A team of firefighters from Lopeng was dispatched to the scene but when they arrived at 2.15am, there was nothing left to be salvaged.

“The journey on a four-wheel-drive vehicle from Lopeng fire station to the scene,took about one-and-half hours,” he added.

In a separate incident, also at JalanBeluruLapok, an Indonesian worker was reported to have suffered burns  to his hands and body  in a fire that razed a house and a four-wheel-drive vehicle at 12.42am.

Law said the victim, identified as Bomba Dullah, 45, was attempting to put out the fire but got himself burnt instead.

The house and vehicle belonged to the victim’s employer, Badi Bandak, 55, who happened to be out of the house when the incident occurred.

The firemen took almost two hours to totally put out the fire.
