KUCHING: State Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Chong Chieng Jen was told to boldly ask Putrajaya to return the state’s oil royalty and taxes.
In Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Youth chief Michael Tiang’s estimation, the DAP leader failed to materialise all the promises that he made to Sarawakians.
“Even though he said that some of the promises have been fulfilled, the fact is that 100 percent of Chong’s pledges has not come to fruition,” he said in a statement yesterday.
“Not only that, he has not reclaimed the 20 percent oil royalty and 50 percent taxes to be returned to Sarawak, but a lot of his promises were swept under the rug after PH took control of Putrajaya.”
Tiang pointed out that even though PH claims to implement an open tender process for procurement of government assets, it has not been applied throughout the administration.
“Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Amiruddin Hamzah used direct negotiation in the procurement of five government vehicles in their tender process. Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad himself said direct negotiation is here to stay.
The SUPP Youth chief also lamented that petrol price has not been lowered to RM1.50 per litre as promised by DAP, brushing off notions by Chong that PH successfully stabilised the petrol price.
“The free healthcare schemes? That has been implemented by the previous government through its 1Malaysia government clinics.
“This is also the case when it comes to combating corruption. Before this, some BN leaders were prosecuted for crimes committed during their time in power, but now it seems that the prosecution is selective,” he said.
Tiang singled out DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, who was freed from all charges of corruption in connection with the purchase of a bungalow.
“This is to the extent that the Malaysia Anti-corruption Agency (MACC) released a statement expressing their shock over the decision,” he said.
“Chong and Guan Eng have to fulfil their promises before talking about new ones,” he said.
