MIRI: Police have detained a man for possessing RM9,000 worth of drugs, believed to be syabu, in an operation by the side of Jalan Pesisir Pantai near the junction of Miri-Bekenu Road here.
District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner, Lim Meng Seah said the operation took place at 6.15pm yesterday.
The 28-year-old suspect was detained by a team from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of the District Police Headquarters.
“After a physical examination of the suspect, police found two plastic packets of crystal-like substance believed to be syabu weighing 102 grammes.
“The drugs were found in the suspect’s sling bag,” said Lim in a press statement yesteday.
He added the bag also contained an international passport issued in Brunei and several important documents belonging to the suspect.
The suspect was taken immediately to the District Police Headquarters.
“His urine sample tested negative for drugs,” said Lim.
The suspect, who does not have any previous criminal records, is being detained for further investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
