KUCHING: The people of Melaka have overwhelmingly voted for Barisan Nasional (BN) as they believe that the party can bring political stability and economic development to Malaysia, says Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah
“After experiencing 22 months under Pakatan Harapan (PH), they must have realised that PH is all about empty promises, inefficiency, rhetoric, and daily non-stop politicking, which do not bring any good to Melaka,” said the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice-president.
He said this on Sunday (Nov 21) when prompted for comments on BN’s big victory in the Melaka state election on Saturday (Nov 20), securing a two-thirds majority in the 28-seat state assembly.
He said this was also an indicator that voters rejected ‘frog politics’ as all those who had jumped parties after the 14th General Election (GE14) and contested in this state election had been rejected and defeated.
“The voters in Melaka have spoken and voted. They have voted for BN and we must respect that.
“Congratulations to United Malays National Organisation (Umno) and BN for the landslide winning of Melaka state,” said Abdul Karim, who is also Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister.
Meanwhile, Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, who is also PBB vice-president, said the people had already undergone 22 months of difficulty, with the nation experiencing a decline in economy, fleeing investors, and an uncertain future at the time.
“The people of Malaya are now aware. They have realised the need to have a stable government for prosperity. Don’t gamble the future of our children and grandchildren,” said the Utilities Minister.
In the Melaka state election results announced on Saturday, BN won 21 seats, of which 18 were won by Umno, two by Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA), and one by Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC).
PH won five seats whereas Perikatan Nasional (PN) secured two.
