KUCHING: Local non-governmental organisations (NGOs) have applauded the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) manifesto for the upcoming 15th general election (GE15).
The well-rounded and people-centric manifesto is inclusive and covers all strata of Sarawak society, they said.
Federation of Chinese Associations of Kuching, Samarahan, and Serian Divisions president Datuk Richard Wee said the manifesto has outlined all the initiatives launched by the Premier since he assumed office.
With its theme ‘Ensuring Sarawak’s Stability, Progress, and Prosperity’, Wee said the manifesto encompasses Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s vision and aspirations for Sarawak.
“To incorporate all that into the manifesto in writing shows his and GPS’s determination and commitment to all Sarawakians.
“It is people-centric, business friendly, emphasises on the importance of education and development of human capital and has long term goals and vision for the future direction of developing Sarawak” Wee told New Sarawak Tribune on yesterday (Nov 7).
As such, he hoped that with the determination to eliminate bureaucracy and improve efficiency of government services and machinery, the manifesto will have a direct and positive impact on all ‘anak Sarawak’.
Similarly Sarawak Business Federation (SBF) secretary-general Datuk Jonathan Chai said the manifesto emphasised the importance of political stability.
He said it will facilitate social economic development of Sarawak and most importantly, in defending Sarawak’s rights within the Federation of Malaysia in accordance with the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), Inter-Governmental Committee (ICG) Report, the Sarawak Constitution and the Federal Constitution.
“Looking at the prevailing political development in West Malaysia, it’s likely that no political alliance or party would secure even a simple majority there to form the next federal government.
“With that scenario, Sarawak could play a major role in ensuring political stability to the incoming government.
“Political stability is much needed to ensure the continued recovery of our economy in the post pandemic era,” Chai added.
