BETTER solutions and plans to resolve low water pressure problems in the Dudong constituency are urgently needed, said Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing (GPS-Dudong).

He pointed out that the issues had been affecting the Dudong folk for years  when delivering his maiden speech during the motion of appreciation to the Head of State (TYT) Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud today.

“Many residential and commercial areas are experiencing low water pressure. Sibujaya four-storey flat units totally have no water supply from the first floor up to the fourth floor. Even terrace units also face the same problem from time to time  for at least for the last seven years.

Tiong pointed out that Eco Garden which comprises 700 housing units including 216 units of Civil Servants Housing Programme (PPAM) houses had been facing water supply issues due to the lack of proper planning for the last 10 years.

“All the keys had been handed over to the purchasers but most of the buyers can’t move in because there is no water supply and they can’t get the water meters for the last five years.

“A lot of purchasers had come to meet me to express their disappointments as they have become victims who suffer huge financial losses. They don’t know whether they have been cheated by the developer or whether it is due to  poor infrastructure planning by relevant department or agency.”

Tiong urged the Minister of Utility and Telecommunication to immediately look into the problem which has made the people suffer.

“l understand that the ministry has, through the JBALB,  built a new pipeline from the Salim Treatment Plant to Jalan Salim, Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce, Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, Jalan Durin Link, Durin Bridge, KJD and  Kanowit.

Unfortunately, he said the route bypassed Sibujaya and Eco Garden which were homes to 55,000 people.

“At this moment, JBALB may consider diverting some supply from the new pipeline to Sibujaya and Eco Garden but this is simply unacceptable. It is merely a piecemeal solution, it will not resolve the overall problem and issues,” he said.

Tiong urged the Minister to reconsider diverting the new pipeline to Sibujaya and Eco Garden as Kanowit  was still able to cope with its water needs.

“Meanwhile, the ministry should immediately consider speeding up the construction of a new additional water treatment plant in Kanowit which had been planned earlier by the agency,” he said.
