KUCHING: The overwhelming participation of people in the Kempen Kebersihan Bandaraya Kuching reflects the willingness of all parties to shoulder the responsibility of maintaining cleanliness in the city centre.
Utilities and Telecommunication Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said the participation of private bodies, traders, voluntary bodies, welfare clubs and private individuals in the campaign was very meaningful in making cleanliness a value and a way of life.
“With the responsibility shared, we can all strive to make cleanliness as one of the characteristics of the identity of our people and state and further ensure that a clean environment is created in Kuching City.
“It is hoped that more such campaigns will be held to raise awareness on the value of cleanliness and the need to create a clean environment in Kuching city and instil a new sense of public responsibility among all walks of life,” he added.
He said this during the launching of Kempen Kebersihan Bandaraya Kuching held at Square Tower Waterfront Kuching on Saturday (Apr 2).
In the meantime, Abdul Rahman also congratulated Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) for receiving the ASEAN Clean Tourist City Standard (ACTCS) award for the year 2022/2024.
“This award shows DBKU’s initiative in constantly ensuring Kuching as a clean city while maintaining a culture of environmental hygiene,” he said.
For the record, in conjunction with the campaign, DBKU had also organised several activities for the city centre areas, namely Kuching Waterfront Zone, India Street/Gambier Street Zone, Main Bazaar/Carpenter Street Zone and Jalan Masjid Zone.
It is said that the activities organised were plogging, installation of signboards, mural painting, distribution of pamphlets and through social media as well as monitoring operations.
“This campaign as a whole is an awareness campaign to foster the involvement of the community and traders to maintain the cleanliness of the city centre.”
