KUCHING: Kuching City will become livelier when development projects along the Kuching Waterfront are completed, said Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
He said there were quite a number of ongoing projects at the waterfront.
“The water cascade fountain from Fort Margherita is almost completed.
“Below the fountain will be a traditional English tea house,” he added.
Karim said his ministry is going to extend the Kuching Waterfront right up to the Brooke Dockyard.
He said only just a short distance was left. The waterfront, he explained, had already been extended past the floating mosque.
“If I’m not mistaken, the whole length would be about 2km. It will be a good place for morning and night joggers.
According to him, there will also be an extension of the walkway from the water cascade fountain to Darul Hana Bridge and the Astana.
“Apart from that, I have also been directed to make sure that all forts in the state are upgraded.
“About four or five forts are being upgraded while another five to ten forts will be upgraded,” he said in his speech when officiating at the 5th Annual Ponggal Harvest Festival held at Kuching Waterfront yesterday.
Karim explained that the development projects were part of his ministry’s efforts to beautify Kuching.
“We are also planning to light up Kuching trees and Fort Margherita through proper lightings,” he added.
