Manyin hoping for a sports village for S’wak

MIRI: Minister of Youth, Sports and Solidarity, Dato Sri Michael Manyin Jawong hoped that Sarawak will have more sport schools and an own village of youth and sports in future.

He pointed out that such facilities are absolutely indispensable to the development of sports in this state.

“As we all know, the credibility of Sarawak in the world of sports is so admired.
“Therefore, I believe the presence of such facilities or equipment can improve and hone the search for young talents to continue to shine in sport events that are more competitive,” said Manyin.

He was speaking at a dinner of 30th edition of Tun Sharifah Rodziah Cup’s 2017 at a hotel, here, earlier this week.

Also present at the dinner were Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports who is also Minister of Housing, Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Assistant Minister of Land and Air Transportation and Safety, Datuk Lee Kim Shin, permanent secretary of the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Solidarity, Kameri Affandi, Piasau State Assemblyman, Datuk Sebastian Ting, Miri Resident, Sherrie Hussaini and deputy president of the Football Association of Sarawak (FAS), Colonel Haji Abdul Wahab Rahim.

Meanwhile, Manyin said establishing such a facility as a sports school in line with the state government initiative to produce athletes in competitive sports.

“We want future athletes, especially those who are involved in competitive sports would make it a career to provide substantial income for themselves,” he said, hoping that they can emulate the example of world number one badminton player, Datuk Lee Chong Wei and make this famous athlete as an icon to succeed.

Meanwhile, Head of Women’s Department Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), Normala Abdul Rashid said the tournament was the highest platform for national players to showcase their real abilities.

“This is a chance for players to prove their talents and find chances to represent the national team in the forthcoming SEA Games 2017 which will be held in August,” said Normala.
