KUCHING: A total of 16 booths from various institutions took part in the “Mara Education Institution Carnival (IPMA)” held at Mydin Petra Jaya here today.
The event aimed to provide a platform for school leavers to obtain information on their future educational path.
The institutions involved provided programmes on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in preparation for Industrial Revolution 4.0.
Speaking during a press conference, Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) state director Dr Azmi Amat Murjan said that the state has two advanced skills institutes namely, Institut Kemahiran Mara (IKM) Kuching and IKM Bintulu.
“IKM Bintulu specialises in the oil and gas industry while IKM Kuching offers 10 different programmes either as the ‘Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia’ (SKM) or Diploma.”
He also said the state Mara has plans to turn IKM Bintulu into a platform for skilled workers for the oil and gas industry.
“There are 400 students in IKM Bintulu. The facilities are equipped with what they have on the offshore platforms, and industry partners such as Petronas are providing the students with training.
“Mara also provides a platform for entrepreneurs in the oil and gas industry. The platform and training given can enhance the capacity and capabilities of entrepreneurs in the industry,” he said.
Also present were representatives of National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) and Yayasan Sarawak.
