MIRI: Marine police detained an oil tanker truck during an operation yesterday (Jan 9) for transporting about 16,000 litres of diesel without a permit.

Miri police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said Marine Police Region 5 personnel stopped the truck for inspection at 6.15am during an operation code named ‘Ops Kontraban’ along Jalan Miri-Bakan, near Sekolah Kebangsaan Bakam.

“The driver failed to produce a permit or relevant documents.

“The total seizure, including the oil tanker, is estimated at RM132,000,” he said in a statement.

Alexson said the seized items will be handed over to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Miri branch for further action.

The case is being investigated under the Control od Supplies Act 1961.
