KUCHING: The state Marine Police Operations Force wants to free itself from any form of drug abuse by its personnel.

“For that, Operation Blue Devil (OBD) will continue,” said   Marine Operations Force commander SAC Mohd Yusoff Mamat during a handover duty ceremony at the Sarawak Marine Police Region 5 base, Bintawa here yesterday.

Mohd Yusoff said OBD is in line with IGP Abdul Hamid Bador’s call to ensure that negative perception of the Royal Malaysian Police Force (PDRM) is addressed.

“It means enhancing integrity and accountability, which has become even more important lately because of the increasing number of officers found to be under the influence of drug.

Supt Abdul Rahman hands over duty to ACP Shamsul (left), witnessed by SAC Mohd Yusoff.

“Recently in Sabah, officers were arrested after being tested positive for drugs. My hope is that in this region there will be zero officers under the influence of drugs.

“As I have said, I will not compromise with anyone who is involved in drugs,” he stressed.

Mohd Yusoff said police officers who have lost interest in their work should just leave “to make way for the many qualified people out there who are too happy to join the force”.

On the success of OBD, he said recently they have arrested four officers in Sandakan, Sabah.

“This operation should be continued to cleanse the department of dirty officers who abuse drugs and
substances,” he said.

He said it is when the department is clean that the service delivery system can improve.

“It is also for this reason that I agree with the implementation of the Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC).

“Those scared of IPCMC are involved in crimes such as bribery, misconduct and others.

“If they have done nothing wrong then there is no need to fear IPCMC,” he said.
