Marine police seize lorry tanker with subsidised diesel on Bintulu-Miri Highway

MIRI:  Authorities seized a lorry tanker carrying 5,000 litres of subsidised diesel oil, valued at RM19,000 on Monday (Aug 5).

The operation was conducted by the Marine Police Force Region 5 as part of ‘Op Taring Kontraban’.

Miri police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the tanker was detained on Aug 5 around 12.30 pm.

The Marine Intelligence Unit (URM) Tactical Headquarters, Marine Police Force Region 5, with a team consisting of one officer and four personnel, intercepted the green tanker a capacity of 16,000 litres.

The tanker was stopped on the Bintulu-Miri Highway near Miri Departmental Store Batu 8 Lambir.

Upon inspection, the driver admitted carrying diesel oil without proper documentation.

The driver failed to provide any documented evidence for the diesel oil, which constitutes an offence under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

The lorry tanker carrying 5,000 litres of subsidised diesel oil, valued at RM 9,000 and the driver have been seized and detained for further questioning.

The seized green tank truck is estimated to be worth approximately RM 95,000, bringing the total value of the seizure to RM114,000.

The seized items and the arrested individual were handed over to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) branch investigating officer for further action.

The case is currently under investigation for violations of the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
