KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here has ordered a married couple to maintain a six-month peace bond after they injured each other over the husband’s act of going out with his alleged mistress at a café.
Mohd Hafiz, 48, and Norlini, 46, both pleaded guilty before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan to the charge under Section 67 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
The court ordered them to maintain peace for six months with a surety of RM500 each, along with a local surety.
Based on the case facts, on July 1, at around 7.50pm, Norlini saw her husband sitting with a woman she knew at a café along Jalan Puncak Borneo.
She approached Hafiz and asked about his relationship with the woman named Wati, which Hafiz denied any relationship.
Unsatisfied with his answer, Norlini grabbed a broom near a table and swung it at Hafiz’s leg, questioning why was he still in contact with Wati, whom she believed he had broken up with.
When Norlini tried to approach Wati, Hafiz restrained her by embracing her from behind. However, Norlini managed to escape by biting his hand.
Enraged by his wife’s action, Hafiz slapped Norlini’s cheek, punched her stomach, strangled her and slammed her onto the floor.
Norlini filed a police report fearing for her safety after the incident.
Investigations revealed that the couple fought with each other until both sustained injuries. Norlini sustained injuries on her body and Hafiz on his legs and hand.
Insp Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang prosecuted the case while, the couple were unrepresented by counsels.
