KUCHING: Students from Mas Gading Community College’s Landscape Programme demonstrated exceptional talent and emerged victorious at the recently held 2023 Architecture Project Programme (ProAlBi 2023) held at Teluk Intan Town Hall.

The students, Davveny Marshall Mugi, Nur Farah Lydiana Abdullah Sumsudin, and Sarah Aida Shahidan, represented the college and secured the prestigious Gold Award with their project titled ‘A True Treasure of Sarawak Landscape.’ Additionally, Ahmad Daniel Haiqal Irwan, Cyril Maxlarence Perry, and Shirley Liew Li Ting won the Silver Award for their project ‘Borneo Landscape Trial.’

A total of 12 Malaysian Community Colleges participated in the event, comprising 25 teams and 75 participants, who gathered in Teluk Intan for a two-day camping experience to ensure the success of the ProA1Bi programme.

According to the organisers, the ProAlBi 2023 programme aimed at fostering innovation and creativity among community college students, as well as students from higher education institutions across Malaysia.

They emphasised that innovation plays a crucial role in enhancing work quality, providing effective problem-solving solutions, and improving community welfare.

Shirley Phillip, the director of KKMG, expressed her pride and appreciation for the remarkable achievements of the Landscape students. She acknowledged the commitment and guidance provided by the head of KKMG Landscape Unit Programme, Nor Akma, and senior lecturer Faizal Affendy, which contributed to the extraordinary success.

“The ProAlBi 2023 programme was jointly organised by the Curriculum Division of the Polytechnic Education Department & Community College in collaboration with Teluk Intan Community College. It encompassed five programmes within the Civil Engineering and Built Environment Unit, aimed at promoting innovation and creativity,” she said.

The event featured an exhibition where students presented their project results, showcasing their theoretical and practical skills. The competition encouraged students to showcase the products they had developed during their studies, highlighting elements of creativity, critical thinking, and entrepreneurial spirit.

The involvement of numerous colleges and participants provided valuable exposure and motivation for both students and lecturers, emphasising the significance of innovation and creativity in improving the quality of work and the community’s quality of life.
