KUCHING: Deputy Chief Minister, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr. James Jemut Masing said celebrating our own Independence Day on July 22 is more important than the National Day on August 31. Masing said, “31st of August has nothing to do with us.
It is Malaya Independence Day. I am surprised that schools in Sarawak are full of flags and in one place it says 61 years of Malaysia.
61 yrs ago Malaysia did not even exist and this is the wrong Mathematics or wrong mindset among Sarawakians! He said Sarawak can assist them by sending delegates to where 31 August celebration takes place; likewise, Malaya and Sabah should send delegates to Sarawak to celebrate our Independence Day on 22nd July. Letus be proud of our Independence Day on 22nd July.
He said we should not be subservient to others for wrong reason! Calling to Sarawakians, he said, “Please stand for your rights and be proud of being Sarawakians.”
