KUCHING: Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh’s decision to resign from the state cabinet gets some respect from Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri James Jemut Masing.

“Wong Soon Koh has decided to resign. We must respect his decision. I wish him all the best,” he said.

Beyond that, Masing, who is the Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president, declined to comment further.

Yesterday, Wong, who is also Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) said in a press conference that his decision to resign was “definite”.

He also clarified that he needed to seek Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg’s advice first on how and when to finalise his resignation.

Last Sunday, Masing said Wong and his party should have understood what he called “the writing on the wall”, even after Abang Johari spoke about not wanting “termites” in Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

Meanwhile, Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) women chief Kho Tech Wan noted that there have been a lot of announcements on Wong’s intention to resign, but still no real resignation.

“I am commenting in my personal capacity and not my party,” she said.
