KUCHING: Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing’s demise will be greatly felt by Sarawak and the nation, says Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.
The federal Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister said the late Masing was highly admired by the people as a vocal leader who looked after the interests of the people, especially the rural communities.
“I feel the loss of a very important person in my life and the political arena in Sarawak because he was a person who was very meaningful to the struggle of this state, especially in the rural areas and among the Dayaks.
“Because of that, he was known as a prominent Dayak figure,” he told the media after paying his last respects at Masing’s residence here on Monday (Nov 1).
Nanta pointed out that he himself was a resident of the Baleh Constituency represented by Masing.
“Thus, I have witnessed myself all the efforts that the late James Masing made (in his constituency).
“He held the position of deputy chief minister and was also the chairman of the Ulu Rajang Development Agency (URDA). I am the deputy chairman of URDA. Together, we had discussed, planned and implemented various projects with elected representatives.”
Nanta said Kapit had seen significant changes and all were due to the efforts made by Masing during his tenure as URDA chairman.
“Personally, I deeply feel the loss of a friend and a mentor in politics as well as a leader.
“I hope in the future, we will be inspired by his struggle over the years and motivate our successors and those in office in continuing his struggle.”
