KUCHING: A house owner and his nine-year-old daughter were rudely awakened after two masked intruders armed with knives forced open their bedroom door at Taman Merlin, Kota Samarahan early Monday morning.
Both the father and daughter had their hands and ankles tied before the intruders made off with at least RM200,000 worth of valuables.
The housemaid who was sleeping on the ground floor sustained a cut on her right fingers and she was also bundled up too. The mother of the house owner who was sleeping in a room on the ground floor was left unharmed.
Kota Samarahan police chief, DSP Lee Chong Chern in confirming the case said the armed robbery occurred at about 2.30am when two men, both armed with knives barged into the master bedroom of the house owner who is a businessman while he was sleeping with his daughter.
Lee said the businessman did not retaliate as he feared that the intruders might harm his daughter.
“After tying them up, the two on the upper floor ransacked the house while another one on the ground floor was on the lookout. However, when a neighbour saw the intruder, he let off his house alarm which caused the three intruders to flee. The neighbour then contacted the police.
After the house maid freed herself, she went to the upper floor to untie her employer and his daughter.
Lee said the trio gained entry by cutting the iron grilles of the kitchen door.
Among the items stolen were a white gold necklace worth RM20,000, wristwatches worth RM5,000, a LV handbag worth RM12,000, gold bracelets with gems worth RM1,000, car keys, gold rings, computer tablet, handphone and cash.
The house owner was unsure of the total loss but estimated it to be at least RM200,000.
Lee said the case is being investigated.
