SARIKEI: Matrixx United squad won the Christmas Cup futsal tournament organised by Unispor t Sar ikei Spor ts and Recreational Club in collaboration with the Sarikei Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Office. With the win, Matrixx United took home a cash pr ize of RM1,000 and a trophy.
Second place were Unisport and received a cash prize of RM700, while third place went to Nafas Mukah who received a cash prize of RM500.
Meanwhile, the combination Cina Iban Malay squad (CIM) were fourth with a cash prize of RM300. Deputy chairman of the club, Mohd Norhisham Samsudin said the event was one of the avenues for young people to highlight their talents in futsal as well as closing of the club’s hosting activities forthe year 2017.
According to him, the competition aimed to nurture solidarity through sports besides instilling the spirit of cooperation among players. “A total of 32 teams took part in the tournament and all showed a high level of sportsmanship. In this edition, we also provide prizes to the fifth until eighth winners,” he said.
He added that the championship aimed at encouraging youth involvement in beneficial activities. The prize presentation ceremony was officiated by Sarikei, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Office officer, Munir Din.
