MUKAH: Nearly 5,000 people, comprising 49 contingents, participated in the Maulidur Rasul procession here on Thursday (Sept 28).
Registration for the participants started as early as 7am, and was followed by various performances and poetry recitations.
Subsequently, federal Deputy Minister of Economy, Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib delivered a speech.
She emphasised that the theme “Sarawak Prosperous, Ummah Prosperous” for the state-level Maulidur Rasul celebration is very significant as it aligns with the celebration of Sarawak’s 60 years of independence.
“This shows that our state has a diverse population that cherishes prosperity.
“We should be grateful, despite having diverse ethnicities and religions in our state, we can live together, maintain unity, and harmony.
“Furthermore, Sarawak remains a model of a cooperative and respectful society among its various communities,” the Mukah MP stressed.
Meanwhile, the programme commenced with the contingents’ procession.
The contingents were divided into four categories: Category A consisted of government departments, statutory bodies, and private companies.
Category B included mosques and prayer halls, while Category C encompassed Village Development and Safety Committees (JKKK), associations, clubs, and organizations.
Category D covered public and private educational institutions, secondary schools, and primary schools.
Additionally, the overall best contingent award was won by the Public Works Department (JKR) Mukah.
Also present at the event were Tellian assemblyman Royston Valentine and Mukah Resident Kueh Lei Poh.
