KUCHING: Maxim Kuching kicked off its inaugural Merdeka parade by driving around Kuching with Jalur Gemilang attached on top of their cars yesterday.
Maxim Kuching branch manager, Leroy Salvareo, 28, said that this parade is held to show their support and love to our country.
“The aim of our parade this year is to foster stronger sense of patriotism among our drivers and in the meantime, promote our services to the masses in Kuching.
“There are 11 drivers who volunteered to take part of this parade today (August 31) and they took the time out of their driving schedules in order to show their patriotism towards our country and I would like to thank them for the efforts they have shown today,” Leroy said.
Meanwhile, Maxim Kuching public relations officer, Shafiqah Shajari, 23, added that Maxim drivers will install Malaysian flags on top of their cars until 16 September 2022, which is Malaysia Day, to show their strong sense of love and patriotism towards our country.
“Maxim has been here since 2018 and for the last couple of years we have been staying at home due to the pandemic so we see this Merdeka parade as a new starting point for us to strengthen our patriotism within ourselves.
“I believe that by showing our loves towards our country, we will receive the love from our country as well,” she added.
Azrunikfikri Mustapha, 30, a full time Maxim driver for more than two years, also told New Sarawak Tribune that he feels proud of being one of the 11 drivers to be joining this event in order to show his patriotism and celebrate our country’s National Day.
“I feel extremely proud to be able to join the parade and I would like to thank our heroes who have fought really hard for our country 65 years ago in order for us to achieve independence.
“After finding out about this event from the posts shared by my friends and customers around me, I just told myself I have to be part of this parade,” Azrunikfikri added.
As part of the parade, the team of Maxim Kuching started their driveabout from their branch office at Satok to Kuching Waterfront and drove as far up to Pending area, Tabuan area, Jalan Hospital, Kuching South City Council (MBKS) before returning to their office.
