KUCHING: Maxis Bhd contributed 100 refurbished desktops to schools and community centres under the #MYBaikHati campaign.

The desktops were distributed to schools in Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Kelantan, Terengganu, Perak, Pahang, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor, as well as People’s Housing Project (PPR) community centres in Penang.

Meanwhile, another 310 desktops and laptops will be delivered in the coming months to other locations, including 40 laptops sponsored by Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd.

Maxis chief corporate affairs officer Mariam Bevi Batcha said the project aimed to facilitate better access to devices for learning needs.

She encouraged the public to donate their pre-loved devices to the effort, which would be distributed to individuals in need.

Anne Soosay Selvam, a teacher from SK Bukit Tembakau, Melaka, said the desktops would benefit students, especially in their learning sessions.

“Students will have more fun and enjoy learning with the help of digital tools. These technologies will aid in the development of digitally literate students. Hence, we thank Maxis for the donation to our school.”

Another teacher, Azmi Aziz from SK Keting in Kelantan, also echoed Anne’s views.

“The refurbished desktops are extremely needed as our present desktops are no longer working. This will assist our students and allow them to explore the IT field on a deeper level.”

In a separate initiative, Maxis also contributed 57 units of Vivo Y12 smartphones, Hotlink SIM packs, and RM90 worth of top-up reload to the Ministry of Health’s Greater Klang Valley Special Task Force at MAEPS, Serdang.

The contribution would enable the special taskforce, comprising doctors and counsellors, to virtually monitor Covid-19 patients who are under home quarantine, as well as provide virtual counselling sessions to frontliners.
