JAKARTA: Maybank Indonesia is offering education loans for Indonesian students who want to pursue studies at institutions of higher learning in Malaysia.
Malaysian Ambassador in Indonesia Datuk Zainal Abidin Bakar said the loan offer is made through a collaboration between Maybank Indonesia and Education Malaysia in Indonesia (EMI) to encourage Indonesian students to continue their studies in Malaysia.
“The loan package is introduced today through the ‘Ayo Kuliah di Malaysia 4.0’ programme,” he told reporters after officiating the two-day programme held at the Malaysian Embassy here today.
Zainal Abidin said currently there are 11,000 Indonesian students studying in Malaysia, and through the promotion of the programme, EMI is targeting over 20,000 Indonesians pursuing studies in Malaysia by next year.
Maybank Indonesia business manager Bentaufani S. Manafe said the bank is offering maximum loan of Rp150 million, specifically to Indonesian students who wanted to pursue their tertiary education in Malaysia.
“The loan duration is for up to three years with interest rate of only 0.99 per cent,” he said.
EMI director Associate Professor Dr Mior Harris Mior Harun said the programme involved the participation of 27 universities.
“The Ayo Kuliah in Malaysia programme, which was introduced in 2018, has been gaining popularity, and apart from in Jakarta, we also organise the programme in other cities in Indonesia.
“Initially, the programme only involved the participation of six universities, but the number has increased to 27 universities in Malaysia,” he added. – Bernama
