KUCHING: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng has urged members of Junior Chamber International (JCI) to enhance diversity by involving more non-Chinese individuals.

“I believe Kuching, Sarawak per se, we have a lot of local talents. That is what we want to show people how Sarawakians are like.

“Gone are the days you can do (things) on your own, I also want to see more non-Chinese,” he said in his address during the 2024 JCI Malaysia TOYM Award press conference here today (Mar 22).

Wee hoped that through the inclusion of the many races in Sarawak, JCI could potentially spread all over Sarawak.

“Get them in, nominate them. Put JCI chapters – Kuching, Damai and so on.

“So, get those people, don’t need to be well off, but those that contribute a lot, that you think that touches a lot of people’s hearts, put them up.”

He urged JCI to continue helping the community, stressing that it is a collective effort to inspire change.

“Once you’re in the position to help, please do so, a loving society needs everyone’s effort. It doesn’t just need the city’s mayor, it needs all of us.”
