MIRI: City mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang has conducted a surprise inspection of the rural transformation development projects in the Pujut constituency this morning, ensuring that basic development facilities such as solar lights meet standards.
He instructed contractors to replace any projects that did not meet the standards.
Accompanied by Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Krokop sub branch chairman and city councilor Vincent Huang, SUPP Pujut Branch Youth chief Kelvin Hii, and SUPP Pujut Branch publicity secretary Chong Kong Min, Yii began the inspection at 4.30 am.
As the Pujut assemblyman, he expressed dissatisfaction with the non-compliance issues found in the construction of solar lights in some areas.
Some solar lights are malfunctioning, damaged, or of poor quality.
Disappointed with the quality and effectiveness of the solar lights used by contractors, he demanded the replacement of malfunctioning or damaged solar lights with high-quality ones to ensure that nighttime lighting functions are not affected.
Emphasising that completed rural transformation development projects have a one-year warranty period, Yii stated that contractors are responsible for maintenance and replacement if damage or non-compliance occurs within this period.
He believes that the funds allocated for these development projects come from the people’s tax money, emphasising the importance of using them in the correct development channels and ensuring that contractors use materials with quality and effectiveness.
“For non-compliant solar lights and other basic facilities, we have provided feedback to the contractors for repair and replacement.”
He pointed out that if the public discovers non-compliance or damage in these rural transformation development projects within the one-year warranty period, they can contact the SUPP Pujut Branch office or the SUPP Krokop sub-branch to raise their concerns.
