MIRI: Mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang has envisioned a promising future for his city.
“The development of Miri from its early days as a small fishing village to its current status as a thriving city is a story of resilience, innovation, and community spirit,” he said during a vibrant flag-raising ceremony at City Hall in Marina Park in conjunction with the city’s 19th anniversary as a city.
“As we celebrate our past achievements, let us also look forward to a future filled with promise and potential,” he added.
Stressing the city’s ambitious vision, Yii encouraged the community to strive towards making Miri a ‘Green, Smart and the Most Liveable International Resort City’, highlighting the importance of building a city that not only prioritizes sustainability and modernity but also embraces and celebrates its rich cultural diversity.
“Let us continue to work together to build a city that is not only green, smart, and liveable but also one that embraces and celebrates its diverse cultures and flavours,” he said.
Yii, who is the Pujut assemblyman, expressed his gratitude for the collaborative efforts of government agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), associations, and various entities that have played a crucial role in Miri’s development.
“Your support and partnership have been instrumental to our progress, and I look forward to our continued collaboration,” he said.
This year, the anniversary celebration is themed ‘Equatorial Harmony: A Melting Pot of Cultures and Flavours’, reflecting Miri’s unique geographical position and its rich cultural heritage.
“This theme is a testament to the unique position of Miri on the equator and the rich diversity of cultures and flavours that define our city,” Yii said.
The flag -raising ceremony was attended by Deputy Premier of Sarawak and Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, Deputy Ministers for Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil and Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee, Deputy Mayor Ariffin Mohamad and acting city secretary Abdul Rahman Taupek.
