Mayor praises NGOs for extending assistance to fire victims

KUCHING: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng complimented the Kuching Love Book Associations and Yayasan 38 for their support towards the affected families of the recent fire incident at Kampung Tabuan Cemerlang.

He said this as both of the non-governmental associations (NGOs) extended their support by donating essential food items, daily necessities, and RM500 to each of the affected families.

“These contributions are vital in ensuring that the fire victims have access to the basic necessities during this challenging period.

“The generosity displayed by the Love Book Association and Yayasan 38 is truly commendable.

“Their contributions are making a significant difference in the lives of the fire victims, and we are grateful for their support,” he said in his recent statement.

Earlier, Wee visited the affected families at the temporary shelter near Dewan Serbaguna Kampung Tabuan Lot, Jalan Kampung Tabuan.

Wee expressed his heartfelt sympathy to the victims and commended the swift response of the firefighters who worked tirelessly to battle the blaze and prevent further destruction.

For the record, recently a devastating fire broke out at Kampung Tabuan Cemerlang, destroying eight rented houses, and leaving multiple families displaced.

The blaze, which caused significant damage, was brought under control through the combined efforts of firefighters from the Tabuan Jaya and Padungan Fire and Rescue Stations.

The fire victims are currently housed at the Dewan Serbaguna Kampung Tabuan Lot temporarily as efforts are being made to assess the full extent of the damage and coordinate further assistance to the victims.
