MBKS adapting to meet society’s expectations

KUCHING: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) takes pride in serving Kuching and Kuchingites and upholding the public service values of integrity, service and excellence, its Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said.

He said MBKS continues to keep improving its service delivery and have been innovating as well adapting to meet the changing needs and expectations.

“We know that it is no longer adequate to have one-size-fit-all solutions and we now look for innovative and customer-oriented solutions to meet the diverse and sophisticated needs of Kuchingites, visitors and businesses.

“We cannot think only in terms of administrative expediency and efficiency and we now should look at services from the customers and citizens’ perspective as well as seek to delight the public whom we serve. We go further every day and anticipate what our city will need next,” he said.

Wee was speaking during the council’s appreciation dinner at Riverside Majestic Hotel yesterday (Dec 12).

He said the results of MBKS’ collective efforts to promote Kuching South have resulted in the council being recognised on international and national levels too.

“We are a ‘Healthy City’ and a City of Gastronomy under the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco).

“These are commendable achievements that have set us apart and now we are embarking on a massive public infrastructure project, our first in many decades and we are building for the future of Kuching,” he said.

Wee pointed out over the past three years, MBKS is in a much stronger administrative and financial position and able to provide people-oriented solutions, transparency and accountability on finance, stressing on innovation and extract efficiencies in its operations.

“I am confident that the MBKS staff will continue to do their best in their work, and in doing so, help strengthen the public’s trust and confidence in the public service,” said Wee.

Present to hand over the pensioner appreciation award to 28 MBKS staff was Deputy Premier and Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

Also present were Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil; the ministry’s permanent secretary Datuk Antonio Kahti Galis; Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo Khere Chiang; MBKS Deputy Mayor Hilmy Othman and Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) director Mohamed Khaidir Abang.
