KUCHING: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) deputy mayor Hilmy Othman has been named as the new mayor for Kuching North City Hall (DBKU).

This appointment was confirmed by Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.

“His name was presented during the recent Cabinet meeting. He is expected to be sworn in on Sept 1, succeeding the outgoing mayor, Datuk Junaidi Reduan,” Dr Abdul Rahman told the media after the closing ceremony of the Pantai Damai Ketua Kaum & Ketua Masyarakat leadership seminar here yesterday.

He praised Hilmy’s extensive leadership experience, having served as a councillor and currently as the deputy mayor for MBKS.

He expressed confidence that Hilmy’s qualifications and experience will serve him well in his new role.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is expected to witness Hilmy’s swearing-in ceremony.

Meanwhile, outgoing mayor Junaidi mentioned that his term will conclude at the end of the current month.

During the leadership seminar, participants were briefed on the latest policies of the state government, including integrity and ombudsman matters from the Integrity and Ombudsman Unit of the Premier’s Department.

“This is because in November, the Integrity and Ombudsman Bill Ordinance is set to be presented during the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting,” said Dr Abdul Rahman.
