KUCHING: The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) hosted the ‘Ngetas Ranyai’ ceremony to mark the closing of the Gawai Dayak celebration.

“Today, we not only celebrate the end of the harvest season but also the beginning of a new year full of promise and potential.

“It is a time to appreciate the hard work and dedication of our farmers, whose efforts ensure that we have a bountiful harvest and food on our tables,” said MBKS mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng.

He said this during the ‘Ngetas Ranyai’ ceremony at the MBKS lobby here on Friday (June 21).

The event started with a ‘ngajat’ dance performed by MBKS staff immediately after Wee’s arrival. Later, MBKS staff, dressed in various traditional costumes, performed on stage.

Wee performed the ‘ngajat’ before cutting the tree to symbolise the end of the Gawai Dayak celebration during the ‘Ngetas Ranyai’ ceremony.

The Segulai Sejalai Gawai Dayak event ended with a prize-giving ceremony for the best costume, with the Kumang category won by Nur Aisyah Raudhah Devvy for her beautifully designed Orang Ulu traditional costume.
