KUCHING: The Mayor of Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Datuk Wee Hong Seng is keen to integrate smart and advanced technologies into the city’s ongoing Smart City initiatives.
“During our visit to Indonesia’s new capital Nusantara from Nov 8 to 10, we were impressed by their focus on state-of-the-art digital infrastructure and sustainable urban development,” Wee said in a statement today (Nov 13).
He added that Nusantara’s development plan prioritises high-speed 5G networks, AI-enabled urban management systems, and environmentally responsible architecture.
“They’re aiming for smart utilities, real-time environmental monitoring, and autonomous transport solutions to enhance urban efficiency and achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2045,” he said.
The visit also explored the possibility of a friendship city relationship between Nusantara and Kuching, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing on smart city development and sustainable practices.
The delegation, which included stakeholders from various sectors, was invited by the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Kuching under the theme “Advancing IKN, Enriching Borneo.”
