KUCHING: Kuching City South Council (MBKS) has unveiled its new and unique toilet built underground to suit its natural terrain setting.
With a cost of RM419,235 it was completed on 30 December last year using the federal funding BP1 project.
With a design and concept by the council’s in-house project team, the toilet is adjacent to the MBKS Theatre. More than just a public toilet, its roof is also accessible by the public to be used as a viewing platform for the various activities planned at the theatre’s stage.
The toilet also features changing rooms which are divided into two pavilions, with the space acting as a central entry point to the amenities and transition link from Dewan Masyarakat to Kuching Park Hotel.
With this, the council hopes that the public will appreciate this new facility and use the toilet with care.
The unveiling of this new facility is timely as the annual Kuching Festival is about to start for three weeks from 28 July 2017.
The fair will operate on a nightly basis which includes a food fair, trade fair, and entertaniment which will create a vibrant and cheeful atmosphere for its visitors.
Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud is expected to officiate at the opening of the fair, which will see fireworks going off within the vicinity of the MBKS Jubilee Ground at 9pm.
There will also be five International Friendship Cities who will perform for three nights from 28 to 30 July from 7pm to 10pm at the theatre.
The cities are Guro City (South Korea), Asuke (Japan), Kunming City, Zhanjiang City, and Zhenjiang City which are all from China.
