KUCHING: A member of the Civil Defence Force (MCDF) was injured by a dog while handling an emergency case on Saturday night.
The incident occurred when the team responded to an emergency call from a member of the public in a village at Jalan Kuching-Bau at around 10.45 pm.
A spokesman for MCDF Kuching said a female victim was experiencing abdomen pain and weak limbs.
Following that, a four-member team led by Cpl Khairuddin Jamel, was deployed to the scene to provide medical assistance to the victim.
Once they had transferred the victim into the ambulance, the team was attacked from behind by an aggressive dog.
The dog had apparently bitten one of the MCDF members thus, causing him to be injured on his arm.
The injured member was immediately rushed to the hospital for further treatment.
Despite emphasising all aspects of safety for the personnel and the public during the handling of a case, the spokesman said such incidents were difficult to predict.
It is understood that dogs can bite for various reasons, including fear, protection, territoriality, pain, playfulness, and aggression.
Sometimes, a dog may bite due to poor socialisation and training, which can lead to fear and aggression towards unfamiliar people or animals.
