KUCHING: Public compliance of the movement control order (MCO) in Sarawak is rated at 95 percent on a daily basis.
Police Commissioner Datuk Aidi Ismail said police will continue to intensify its enforcement to ensure even better public compliance of the MCO.
According to Aidil, yesterday saw a slight decrease in the number of arrests against MCO violators who had no valid reasons not to remain indoors.
Throughout the 24 hours (8am to 8am) operation, 32 individuals were arrested yesterday compared to 37 on Thursday, Aidil said in a statement.
Aidi said under the Infectious Disease Prevention (Steps in the Territory) Regulations 2020 and Section 186 of the Penal Code, a total of 381 individuals had been arrested throughout the state.
He said 235 individuals had been charged in court since March 18. Of the total 208 pleaded guilty while 19 not guilty.
“Ninety of the accused were ordered to serve time in prison, 59 were sentences to imprisonment and fine and 36 were fined.
Aidi also stressed that arrest warrants had been granted by the court for suspects who failed to present themselves in court.
He added that some of the accused had pleaded guilty but sentences were withheld pending probation reports.
