KUCHING: Parents and grandparents play an important role in making children feel safe and secure at home during the movement control order (MCO) implemented to curb the spread of Covid-19.

Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said that parents and grandparents needed to ensure that children understand the current situation.

“Give facts without too much detail about Covid-19. Concentrate on why it is important to stay home.

“Also, make them understand why schools are closed. Focus on what to do to stay safe,” she said.

She pointed out that schools, nurseries, kindergartens, and playgrounds were closed and children were not allowed to visit their friends or invite them over to their house.

“Maintain a certain level of discipline and routine such as time to sleep, time to get up, performing solat, having meals together, home schooling, doing household chores, as well as free and easy activities,” Fatimah advised.

“It is bonding time. Enjoy the precious moments. Stay home, stay safe, and stay happy,” she said.
