KUCHING: Will another movement control order (MCO) be implemented in Sarawak?
We should know by tomorrow.
State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas was quoted by a local news portal as saying an announcement on the matter would be made on Monday (May 3) after the committee had its meeting.
“Wait for tomorrow’s meeting,” he said.
Uggah was asked to comment on a news report by a national daily that the Health Ministry had proposed for the imposition of MCO in five states, namely Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor and Sarawak in view of the increasing number of Covid-19 cases.
Uggah said as far as Sarawak was concerned, it still remained under the conditional movement control order (CMCO).
“Sarawak had not been in any discussion with Putrajaya on the implementation of another MCO.
“I am not aware of any information on the matter. We are still under CMCO as far as Sarawak is concerned and as of this very moment,” he said when quoted by a local English daily on Sunday (May 2).
The deputy chief minister also refrained from speculating on whether another MCO was on the cards when asked on the possibility of Sarawak enforcing another MCO to curb the current wave of Covid-19 infection.
