BETONG: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas has discussed with the Public Works Department (PWD) to initiate slope protection measures aimed at preventing landslides near longhouse areas.

Highlighting the importance of proactive measures, the Bukit Saban state assemblyman stressed that the planned efforts are essential to safeguard residents from potential landslides that could threaten their homes and well-being.

During a recent visit to Rumah Tanjung Paoh, where a landslide incident occurred, Uggah demonstrated his commitment to the affected community by providing support.

Although the longhouse’s main structure remained intact, the kitchen area of one of the residents sustained damage due to continuous heavy rainfall, highlighting the need for immediate remedial action.

As part of the assistance provided, Uggah handed over a symbolic donation of food supplies and essential kitchen items from the Social Welfare Department of Betong Division to the affected residents.

His wife, Datin Amar Datuk Doreen Mayang, contributed by offering personal donations, including kitchen appliances.
