Media fraternity lauded for role in Sarawak’s development

MIRI: The state government is thankful that the local media fraternity continues to be part of the effort to create interest in Sarawak’s development.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the media plays a great role in creating awareness on the various initiatives and efforts taken by the state government.

“As such, I hope that our media friends will also help to create greater awareness among the people as the state journeys towards the new economy,” he said.

He said this during the 35th Kenyalang Journalism Awards 2023, at Pullman Hotel Miri on Friday night.

His text of speech was read out by Minister of Transport Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin.

At the same time, Abang Johari highlighted that many parties have shown interest in Sarawak.

He said from foreign envoys, bankers, foreign and local investors, researchers, heads of government from other states had enquired how they could collaborate with Sarawak in the state’s pursuit to develop a green economy.

“This goes to show that Sarawak under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) leadership is recognised as being a region with tremendous potential in its resources.

“Sound and forward-looking policy towards creating economic prosperity with assurance of inclusivity in wealth distribution and the furtherance of environmental sustainability,” he said.

For the record, 353 entries from all media organisations in Sarawak participated in this year’s 35th Kenyalang Journalism Awards.

Among those present were Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting and president of Federation Sarawak Journalists Association (FSJA), Andy Jong Wan Joon.
