Media gathers for SAREF 3.0 briefing in Kuching

KUCHING: Over 40 local and international media professionals gathered at The Waterfront Hotel poolside to attend the Sustainability & Renewable Energy Forum (SAREF) 3.0 media briefing tonight (Sept 5).

The media briefing was conducted by Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) Media & Issues Management, Corporate Communication Department Senior Executive II Joseph Kaos Jr.

SAREF is a biennial conference that represents a 10-year thought leadership campaign, bringing together leaders and subject matter experts in the energy and sustainability sectors including c-suites, policy makers, academicians, civil societies, and the media to talk about renewable energy and actionable solutions to build a more sustainable energy future for Southeast Asia.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg will be officiating the international forum on Wednesday (Sept 6) morning.

He will be sharing about the trajectory of Sarawak’s sustainability and renewable energy path.

The forum’s panellists and speakers will provide views on perspectives on how to encourage the development and sharing of renewables in Southeast Asia, the necessary policy and mindset shifts for greater uptake of an electrified transport system to transform cities and what else can be done to resource the energy.

The plenaries will discuss what needs to be done to achieve common prosperity by meeting the demands of growing energy needs while addressing the trilemma of security, affordability, and sustainability.

Dame Christiana Figueres, who is a key leader in the worldwide effort to address climate change and former executive secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) will be leading the discussion.

She brought together nearly two hundred countries as parties to the Paris Agreement, and she is the co-writer of ‘The Future We Choose: Surviving Climate Crisis’.

For the record, some 700 to 1,000 delegates will participate in the forum themed ‘Regional Net Zero and Sustainable Communities, Renewable Energy Development, and Interconnections’ from Sept 6 to 7 at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).
