KUCHING: The sacrifices and dedication of media practitioners, especially in covering the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma), are deeply appreciated.

In this regard, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS), Datuk Abdullah Saidol said an appreciation ceremony will be held as it is the best medium to recognise all journalists who have worked tirelessly throughout the Games.

He also conveyed Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s admiration for the dedication and creativity demonstrated by journalists throughout the biennial Games.

“I would like to convey the Premier’s greetings to all media practitioners.

“He was impressed with the creativity and dedication of journalists who have delivered outstanding coverage throughout the Games,” he said.

He said this in a press conference held in conjunction with the prize presentation ceremony for the Picture of The Day and Article of The Day competitions at the Main Media Centre, Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre today (Aug 23).

Abdullah, who is also the Semop assemblyman, said young media practitioners, including photographers, reporters, and others, have also made significant contributions in this edition of Sukma.

Therefore, he stressed the need for experienced journalists to guide these young media practitioners to further elevate their skills.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Deputy State Secretary (Operations), Datuk Hii Chang Kee said the media should also focus on highlighting the sacrifices and contributions of those who have worked tirelessly.

“We should also be grateful to those working behind the scenes, such as volunteers, the Road Transport Department, caterers, and others who have cooperated to make the Games a success,” he said.

The principal assistant director of the UKAS Community Monitoring and Development Section, Anwar Hanafi Ardimansyah, was also present.
